This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.
How we estimate times · sources and method
Editorial assessment of the first illustrated arrangement: The Gum-Gum Fruit becomes a large purple fruit with spiral patterns and a display base. The support adds One Piece details and separates the fruit from the surface below. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks and subsequent play are excluded. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.
Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

A rubbery body
After eating the Gum-Gum Fruit, Luffy can stretch his body like rubber.
Eating the Gum-Gum Fruit as a child gives Luffy rubber-like stretching powers. These determine his movements, fighting and the physical staging of scenes, making the fantastic premise visible through his body rather than an accessory.
The sea remains a weakness
His powers do not make him a swimmer: the sea weakens him, a crucial limitation for a pirate.
The fruit also gives Luffy a weakness: the sea drains his strength, and sharp weapons remain dangerous. An aspiring King of the Pirates therefore needs companions because his power does not solve every threat. Sailing and fighting still involve limitations, risks and occasions requiring someone else’s help.
