A LITTLE INSPIRATION
Choose a first set that suits your interests and experience, with a challenge you’ll enjoy.
Find your first setMake room for a few hours of building: ideas for a satisfying project without a long commitment.

Find a giftOUR METHOD, AT A GLANCE
A useful comparison starts with knowing what is being measured. Here’s how we keep estimates and contributions clear.
Read the full building-time guideSuggested times are editorial estimates for three experience levels. Community times are submitted by builders: they stay separate, with the number of contributions shown. Where no one has submitted a time yet, you’ll see the estimates only.
Count active building time, including the usual search for pieces and checks of the instructions. Leave out long breaks, dismantling and modifications. Indicate whether you built alone or with others so the comparison stays meaningful.
Small details, repeated sections and moving mechanisms change the pace, as do your experience and how you organise the pieces. Piece count helps describe a set; it cannot predict building time on its own.
THE PROJECT
HowLongToBuild helps you decide what to build and make time to enjoy it.
BEHIND THE PROJECT
I love building, video games, films and TV, and there’s always something new that sparks my curiosity. Welcome to HowLongToBuild!
This site brings together two things I enjoy: building and keeping track of my experiences. Whether it’s LEGO®, games, films or TV, I’ve always wanted a way to organise the things I love while still enjoying them.
I started by making something I wanted to use myself, hoping it could also help dedicated fans and people discovering LEGO® sets for the first time. Even if you’re simply looking for a gift for a friend or family member and don’t know where to start, I hope this site makes choosing a little easier.
The project is still taking shape, one brick at a time. Suggestions are always welcome: report a bug or an inaccuracy, suggest a feature or request a missing set. Your feedback can help make it more useful for everyone.
