Based on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.

How we estimate times · sources and method

Close-set joints, feet and head details. The three central durations are model-specific editorial assessments. Planning ranges extend approximately from 65% to 145%, rounded to quarter-hours; they are not measured experience-level averages or guaranteed limits.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

  • LEGO Italy · BD-1™ ↗

This source documents the model’s features and components, not a timed build. No sufficiently verifiable individual building-time report has been identified for this set.

  • LEGO building instructions · BD-1™ ↗

Set-specific instructions checked against the set number, piece count and year. The duration is an editorial assessment based on piece count, construction type, mechanisms and detail.

The official source documents height only. Width and depth are not stated; head position can change the overall dimensions.

Approximate assembled-model measurements, not packaging dimensions. Allow extra room for handling, moving parts and the display stand. The comparison uses the measured model’s overall footprint, allows a 90° rotation and does not assess stability or shelf load. Source LEGO ↗ · 2026-10-29

03

Cal Kestis’s companion

BD-1 comes from Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, released on 15 November 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

BD-1 accompanies Cal Kestis, an Order 66 survivor played by Cameron Monaghan. Set after Revenge of the Sith, the adventure follows the Padawan’s unfinished training while Imperial Inquisitors pursue him. Respawn developed this original game story with Lucasfilm: the model represents a companion from Cal’s journey rather than a droid created for the film trilogy.

04

A miniature field explorer

The Star Wars Databank describes BD-1 as a companion for lone explorers, able to traverse dangerous locations and varied terrain.

BD units support researchers working without a larger team in the field. BD-1 combines that role with enthusiasm for data collection and little regard for self-preservation. The tension between usefulness and recklessness helps explain the character’s personality: this is a mobile exploratory assistant whose curiosity has a role in the story, not simply a small decorative robot.
