Based on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.

How we estimate times · sources and method

Editorial assessment: Garmadon's volcanic lair. A yellow crane rises at the side. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks, subsequent play and any alternative models are excluded. For older sets, unnumbered bags or previously mixed pieces may prolong sorting. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Checked: 26 October 2026 · Method v1.0 · Limited reports; not a statistical average.

03

Magma and lava

Molten rock underground is called magma; once it reaches the surface it is called lava.

The names distinguish position: below ground it is magma; once erupted it is lava. USGS describes magma as molten material, crystals and dissolved gas. It is not merely the uniform red liquid of a simple illustration; composition helps explain differences in volcanic activity.

04

Eruptions differ

Fluid magma lets gases escape more easily; in more viscous magma, trapped gases can contribute to explosive eruptions.

How easily gas escapes matters. More fluid magma releases it more readily; viscous magma can retain it as pressure builds. Eruptions can produce flows or explosive emissions of gas and fragments. A cone with one bright lava stream is an icon, not the whole phenomenon.
