This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.

How we estimate times · sources and method

Editorial assessment: A demolition site with a crane and vehicles. Red and grey walls form the building to demolish. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks, subsequent play and any alternative models are excluded. For older sets, unnumbered bags or previously mixed pieces may prolong sorting. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Checked: 26 October 2026 · Method v1.0 · Limited reports; not a statistical average.

03

A turning point in crane history

In 1949 Hans Liebherr patented the TK 10, a mobile tower crane designed for reconstruction sites.

The mobile tower-crane patent was issued on 19 August 1949. Liebherr connects the design with European reconstruction and the need for equipment easier to transport and prepare. Moving a load mattered alongside getting the crane to the site and into operation.

04

Faster erection

The TK 10 could be erected in two or three hours, while many contemporary cranes required several days.

The comparison comes from Liebherr’s historical account of TK 10 and contemporary cranes, not a rule for every modern crane. Faster assembly made mechanical lifting practical on sites where preparing a heavy machine could otherwise have taken too long.
