How we estimate times · sources and method

The drift mechanism, suspension and transmission need checking. Stickers are included in the first-build time. The three experience bands are cautious editorial assessments, not measured averages.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Approximate assembled-model measurements, not packaging dimensions. Allow extra room for handling, moving parts and the display stand. The comparison uses the measured model’s overall footprint, allows a 90° rotation and does not assess stability or shelf load. Source LEGO ↗ · 2026-10-29

Skyline and GT-R didn’t debut together

The R34 Skyline generation arrived in May 1998; the GT-R followed in January 1999. Those initials identify a specific version within a wider family.

Skyline R34 appeared in May 1998; GT-R followed in January 1999. Nissan recalls smaller exterior dimensions than R33 with comparable cabin space. Distinguishing the model family from its performance version explains why their dates differ within the same generation’s history.

An inline-six that became famous

The road-going R34 GT-R used the RB26DETT, a twin-turbo inline-six of 2,568 cubic centimetres. Its engine is central to its identity, alongside the movie livery.

Nissan Heritage lists the V-spec II’s RB26DETT as a 2,568 cc twin-turbo inline-six with double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. The designation encodes a specific engine architecture, grounding GT-R identity in real engineering alongside the liveries made familiar through cinema.

SET THE MOOD

A soundtrack for your build

· Selected for the subject and atmosphere

Ravel’s piano writing offers musical colours and patterns alongside work on the model’s forms. This is an editorial listening choice, not an official association.

OUR PICK

Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works and Concertos

Seong-Jin Cho, Boston Symphony Orchestra & Andris Nelsons

Intimate and spacious

A build to spread over several sessions: choose the more understated option when you want the instructions to take centre stage. The music does not set your pace.
