Supra derives from Latin, suggesting being above or going beyond.

Supra means above or transcending in Latin. Toyota calls the 1993 model its second domestic generation but fourth overseas. Different generation numbers can therefore identify the same A80, depending on which market’s commercial history provides the starting point for the count.

The 1993 generation used a three-litre straight-six, including a twin-turbo variant with a six-speed Getrag manual gearbox.

The 1993 Supra offered a three-litre inline-six, naturally aspirated in the SZ and twin-turbocharged in the RZ. Toyota lists a six-speed Getrag manual for the latter. Shorter wheelbase and length accompanied the 2+2 coupé’s mechanical changes, linking performance development with revised proportions.
