How we estimate times · sources and method

Engine assembly, chassis symmetry and sticker application. The three central durations are model-specific editorial assessments. Planning ranges extend approximately from 65% to 145%, rounded to quarter-hours; they are not measured experience-level averages or guaranteed limits.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Forty examples

The real Bolide was designed exclusively for the track, with production limited to forty.

Bugatti planned forty track-only Bolides. Aerodynamic development moved from simulation to real circuits, focusing on downforce and handling. A small production run still required extensive testing: the number of customers did not determine how many checks were needed before delivering the car.

A W16 at the centre

The initial idea was an essentials-only car built around an eight-litre, quad-turbo W16.

The Bolide concept reduced a car to essentials around an eight-litre quad-turbo W16. Bugatti’s testing release lists 1,600 PS and 1,450 kilograms dry. Engine output, mass and aerodynamics work together; power alone cannot explain how a track car approaches corners and braking.
