Intermediate
≈ 2 hSuggested range1 h – 3 h 15 minExperienced
≈ 1 h 30 minSuggested range45 min – 2 h 15 minBased on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.
How we estimate times · sources and method
Editorial assessment of the first illustrated arrangement: Two blue dolphins leap above buildable waves and a small seabed. Coral-like details and small elements contrast with the blue water and animals. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks and subsequent play are excluded. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.
Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Mammals, not fish
Dolphins breathe air with lungs through a blowhole.
The blowhole allows a dolphin to breathe air at the surface. Its streamlined outline may resemble a fish, but it uses lungs rather than gills. Similar-looking shapes can occur in animals from different groups sharing an environment, without making them the same kind of animal.
Milk for their young
Like other mammals, they give birth to live young and nurse them with milk.
NOAA highlights live birth and milk-feeding among dolphins’ mammalian traits. Their aquatic life does not erase a relationship visible in the life cycle. Comparing a dolphin and a shark requires more than colour or silhouette: breathing and reproduction reveal deeper differences.
