≈ 8 minSuggested range4 min – 13 minBased on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.
How we estimate times · sources and method
Editorial assessment: A compact open police car with an officer. The two colours characterise the bodywork with rear lights. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks, subsequent play and any alternative models are excluded. For older sets, unnumbered bags or previously mixed pieces may prolong sorting. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.
Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

London policing in 1829
Robert Peel established the Metropolitan Police in 1829, initially divided into seventeen divisions.
The new force had two commissioners and seventeen geographical divisions. Specialist work developed later: a Detective Branch appeared in 1842, followed by the Criminal Investigation Department in 1878. Modern-looking city police combine roles that became organised at different points in London’s history.
A change of hat
In 1863, helmets replaced uniform top hats and tunics replaced tailcoats.

Helmets and tunics replaced top hats and tailcoats in 1863. Other familiar equipment also arrived gradually: the Met dates whistles replacing rattles to 1884 and police boxes to 1928. Uniform and equipment evolved rather than appearing fully formed when the force was founded.

A soundtrack for your build
· Selected for the subject and atmosphere
Penguin Cafe’s acoustic interlocks offer movement and returning patterns for a vehicle build. This light rhythmic choice follows the pleasure of assembling shapes and mechanisms without setting a pace for your hands.
