≈ 1 hSuggested range30 min – 1 h 45 minBased on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.
How we estimate times · sources and method
Editorial assessment: Big Ben in set 21013 recreates Westminster’s clock tower as a sand-coloured miniature. Repeated levels and small decorative elements require attention to symmetry. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks and subsequent play are excluded. For older sets, unnumbered bags or previously mixed pieces may prolong sorting. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.
Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Big Ben is a bell
The name refers to the tower’s great bell, not the official name of the whole building.
Big Ben is the Great Bell, distinct from Elizabeth Tower and the clock mechanism. It weighs 13.7 tonnes and is struck externally without swinging. One familiar nickname often conceals separate objects responsible for architecture, timekeeping and the sound associated with Westminster.
Four clock faces
Each clock face contains 324 pieces of opal glass in an iron framework.
Four seven-metre dials each combine 324 opal-glass pieces within cast iron, with minute hands 4.2 metres long. What looks like a simple graphic signal from afar is a monumental assembly of materials and parts supporting the everyday act of reading time.
