How we estimate times · sources and method

Repeated modules can speed up the build, while shaping and positioning petals may need extra checks. The three experience bands are cautious editorial assessments, not measured averages.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Inside the set

01

Three stages of a rose

Four roses are fully open, four are blooming and four are buds, so the flower heads don’t all use the same construction.

02

Booklets to share

The three flowering stages have separate instructions. You can build together, but our times assume one person completes the whole bouquet.

03

After the flower comes the fruit

Rose hips contain the seeds. Their colours can attract birds, which help disperse the seeds when they eat the fruit.

After the petals fall, rosehips can provide another display. They contain seeds and attract birds that help disperse them. The RHS contrasts elongated Rosa moyesii hips with tomato-like Rosa rugosa fruits, revealing variety often overlooked when roses are appreciated only for their flowers.

04

Sometimes it pays to leave faded flowers

Let flowers mature on the plant to enjoy their rose hips. Some roses offer a second season of colour after the petals have gone.

Removing spent flowers prevents those stems from forming hips. Leaving them can extend interest into autumn through different colours and shapes. A rose can be appreciated through flowering and fruiting, beyond the brief display of open petals.

SET THE MOOD

A soundtrack for your build

· Selected for the subject and atmosphere

Plantasia’s synthesiser melodies have a light, curious character. We pair them with plants and imaginative shapes: a musical garden rather than a natural sound recording.
