≈ 38 minSuggested range22 min – 1 h 1 minBased on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.
How we estimate times · sources and method
Editorial assessment: War Machine pilots a dark-grey mech with large feet and a shoulder weapon in a compact build. The large accessory rises above the robot’s shoulder. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks, subsequent play and any alternative models are excluded. For older sets, unnumbered bags or previously mixed pieces may prolong sorting. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.
Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Rhodey’s aviation background
James Rhodes is an Air Force officer and Tony Stark’s longtime friend before becoming War Machine.
Before becoming War Machine, Air Force lieutenant colonel James Rhodes is Tony Stark’s friend. He searches for the kidnapped Tony and later helps protect his secret. Military experience and friendship precede the armour, rather than arriving when he puts it on.
Modified armour
In the cinematic story, the armour begins as Stark’s Mark II, later fitted with extra weapons through Justin Hammer.
Rhodes takes Stark’s Mark II after an unsafe birthday party and brings it to Edwards Air Force Base. Hammer adds weaponry, creating the first cinematic War Machine. Its origin combines Stark’s design with another manufacturer’s modifications rather than beginning with a wholly independent suit.
