How we estimate times · sources and method

Curved bodywork, turbines and tiny exposed-engine details. The three central durations are model-specific editorial assessments. Planning ranges extend approximately from 65% to 145%, rounded to quarter-hours; they are not measured experience-level averages or guaranteed limits.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

BEYOND THE BRICKS

The model, the history, the ideas

Inside the set

01

An exposed turbine

An uncovered engine identifies Luke’s vehicle.

02

A hovering effect

A stand raises the 49-centimetre model to suggest floating.

03

From local journeys to space

The landspeeder serves journeys on Tatooine. Luke’s later X-wing instead has a hyperdrive for independent travel between systems.

The Databank associates hyperdrive and an astromech co-pilot with long-range travel, alongside the fighter’s balance of speed and firepower. Luke’s Death Star attack is one famous use of a spacecraft also able to connect distant locations across the galaxy.

Lucasfilm
04

A mechanical co-pilot

An X-wing astromech assists the pilot and manages essential fighter functions, a technological leap from ground transport.

The astromech and hyperdrive support long-range travel as well as combat. That role differs from a surface vehicle’s. Even when both belong to Luke’s story, a landspeeder and a starfighter answer different fictional transport needs.

SET THE MOOD

A soundtrack for your build

· Selected for the subject and atmosphere

From the energy of Mars to the distance of Neptune, the orchestra changes scale and colour. An imaginary voyage for space exploration: Holst’s planets are musical characters, not an astronomy lesson.

OUR PICK

Holst: The Planets

Charles Dutoit & Orchestre symphonique de Montréal

Orchestra and cosmic imagination

A build to spread over several sessions: choose the more understated option when you want the instructions to take centre stage. The music does not set your pace.
