≈ 3 h 30 minSuggested range2 h – 5 h 45 minBased on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.
How we estimate times · sources and method
Editorial assessment: The AT-AT places an armoured head ahead of a rectangular body on four legs: a build characterised by repeated legs and panels. The forward cockpit connects to the body through a narrow neck. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks and subsequent play are excluded. For older sets, unnumbered bags or previously mixed pieces may prolong sorting. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.
Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Converted caverns
The rebels enlarged Hoth’s caverns to create Echo Base after fleeing Yavin.
After Yavin, the rebels enlarge Hoth caverns into a new headquarters. Remoteness and cold do not ensure safety: a probe droid discovers the barely established base. The battle’s setting is therefore a young hideout forced almost immediately to prepare for evacuation.
Ion defence
The base was protected by a powerful ion cannon and airspeeders adapted to the cold.

An ion cannon and cold-adapted airspeeders defend Echo Base. Evacuation is ordered before the Imperial attack but cannot prevent the arrival of walkers and troops. The heroes’ escape is not a military victory: the Databank calls Hoth a costly Alliance defeat.
