How we estimate times · sources and method

Editorial assessment: The lifeguard station overlooks a beach with a palm tree, small vehicle and seaside accessories. Palm and ground create a small setting around the tower. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks, subsequent play and any alternative models are excluded. For older sets, unnumbered bags or previously mixed pieces may prolong sorting. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

The stories, places and inventions behind your build.

03

A beak without teeth

Sea turtles grip or break down food with beaks and jaws adapted to their diets, without teeth.

Sea turtles use jaws and mouth edges rather than teeth. Leatherbacks lack the distinct beak of other species, with mouths suited to grasping jellyfish. A recognisable shared silhouette therefore contains different feeding solutions, rather than one identical mouth design across every species.

04

Keeping food down

Downward-pointing projections in the throat, called papillae, help retain swallowed food.

Throat papillae help keep food from slipping back out of a sea turtle’s mouth. They are not chewing teeth. The adaptation separates grasping prey from retaining it, revealing functions hidden behind an apparently simple outline of a marine animal’s mouth.

SET THE MOOD

A soundtrack for your build

· Selected for the subject and atmosphere

Small acoustic motifs and a playful character accompany inventive shapes and figures. The aim is curiosity and lightness rather than simply replaying a character’s theme tune.
