How we estimate times · sources and method

Editorial assessment of the first illustrated arrangement: A cabin with a purple roof overlooks a stream and trees in autumn colours. Windows and open areas show the building’s height without a large uniform facade. A first build following the instructions, including normal piece finding; an adult may help when needed. Breaks and subsequent play are excluded. No verified timed build: indicative values with substantial variation.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

03

Yellow was already there

As chlorophyll breaks down, yellow and orange pigments previously masked by green become visible in leaves.

Shorter days accompany chlorophyll breakdown, revealing yellow and orange pigments previously masked by green. Not every autumn colour is newly created. Hickories and aspens can turn golden, with the palette depending on existing substances and how species prepare for winter.

04

Red forms differently

Some red colours come from new anthocyanins produced in autumn rather than simply from green fading away.

Some leaves produce new anthocyanins when sugars become trapped, generating reds and purples rather than exposing hidden colours. Not every species follows this route. Neighbouring trees can therefore display different autumn palettes while both lose chlorophyll during the same season.

SET THE MOOD

A soundtrack for your build

· Selected for the subject and atmosphere

Hazy electronic textures suggest imagined landscapes and memories. This suits world-building and atmosphere rather than merely matching any model containing circuitry.
