TIME TO BUILD

How long does it take to build McLaren P1™?

Active building time · one person

A starting point for planning your build. Times for each experience level are editorial estimates, not measurements submitted by HowLongToBuild users.

Editorial estimate informed by external reports

Beginner

≈ 29 hSuggested range20 h 15 min – 40 h 30 min

Intermediate

≈ 19 hSuggested range13 h 15 min – 26 h 30 min

Experienced

≈ 12 hSuggested range8 h 30 min – 16 h 45 min

Based on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.

How we estimate times · sources and method

Technic axles, transmission and alignment deserve checking before the bodywork is closed. Familiarity with Technic matters more than experience with conventional bricks alone. Experience bands are cautious editorial estimates, not measured user averages.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

Inside the set

01

02

A spoiler with adjustable height

The rear spoiler’s height can be adjusted. Alongside dihedral doors and suspension, it adds working features to the supercar’s bodywork.

03

Three hundred and seventy-five road cars

Production of the road-going McLaren P1 stopped at 375 cars. The track-focused P1 GTR followed at the end of that run and was offered to owners of the road car.

04

A hybrid hypercar

The real P1 pairs a combustion engine with IPAS electric assistance. Electrical power supports performance alongside the work of the engine.

SET THE MOOD

A soundtrack for your build

McLaren P1™ · Selected for the subject and atmosphere

For intricate structures and extended sessions we choose a quieter ambient texture. It leaves space for the instructions, while the electronic alternative adds energy when you want it.

Try a different atmosphere

A build to spread over several sessions: choose the more understated option when you want the instructions to take centre stage. The music does not set your pace.
