Based on one person building the set for the first time, following the original instructions and using numbered bags where supplied. Includes normal piece-finding and minor adjustments; excludes long breaks, filming, dismantling and modifications. Sources may use different methods. This range is neither a statistical interval nor a limit: your build may take less or more time.

How we estimate times · sources and method

Repeated stems and a modest piece count can be quick, but leaf orientation and final positioning still affect the total. The three experience bands are cautious editorial assessments, not measured averages.

Sources do not always specify the builder’s experience. The three experience bands are our editorial assessment, based on the complexity of the set and individual accounts where available.

BEYOND THE BRICKS

Did you know?

The model, the history, the ideas

Inside the set

01

Three stems in one arrangement

The model includes three green canes, pebbles and a pot. The wood-effect plinth is part of the build too.

LEGO source
02

A connection with the Four Gentlemen

LEGO links the subject to bamboo in traditional art and to summer, alongside the other plants in the botanical quartet.

03

A name that can mislead

The houseplant commonly called lucky bamboo is Dracaena sanderiana, not a true bamboo. A commercial name doesn’t always reveal a plant’s botanical relatives.

Royal Horticultural Society
04

A dragon among the leaves

Dracaena comes from the Greek for female dragon. Some species in the genus produce a red resin known as dragon’s blood.
